Los Angeles is in a rare predicament. What predicament, you may ask? It's obtaining a .500 record. After a heartbreaking overtime loss in Week 1 to the Charleston Predators (23-20), the Lycans gained a Week 2 home opener victory over the Florida Storm, 34-14. "It's a testament of what we've been instilling since the offseason," said Defensive End Selwyn Lane who had 2 sacks on the night. "It's vital that we show everyone that we're not the same lame duck team."
Cons
Quarterback Sully Richardson threw his second interception of the season. "I have to do a better job of taking care of the ball," Richardson said. "I cannot put our team under the gun like that."
LA's run game is still lacking. Both Halfbacks Iniguez and Ketchum combined for 83 rushing yards on the night. "I know we're still developing but we have to get a better at running the ball," said Ketchum after practice during the Lycans Week 3 bye week.
Pros
5 total sacks were racked up against the Storm. Lane (2), Speraw (1), Winters (1), and Fields (1) were living in Florida's backfield.
Mike Scott's interception was lovely. Monte Wyatt's 100-yard pick-6 has to be one of the top plays of this young season.
Chris Lee stood up to his "Cheese" nickname as he snatched 5 balls for 98 yards and 2 touchdowns on the day.
Sully Richardson went 10-for-20 and racked up 203 passing yards.
John Smith remains perfect on the season, making 2 field goal kicks with his longest being a 48-yarder.
Onward to Arizona
Sleep has been fleeting since the Lycans Week 3 bye week. Not much rest and relaxation has been happening. Coaches and players alike have been putting in work to continue their winning ways. "This feeling of winning has been absent for a bit from our team," said Middle Linebacker Tazzy Blackwell. "We want to make sure this feeling has a permanent residence."
The next three games are vital for the Lycans as they start division play in the West. The powerhouse Arizona Scorpions have defeated last season's SFL Champion Mexico City Aztecs (20-13) and Lexington Miners (34-30) while losing to the West Division leading Vancouver Legion (31-24). Los Angeles knows very well what the Scorpions are capable of. "We've tried to play them close every chance we get but they always find that next gear and pull off," Defensive Tackle Nick Brummer said. Arizona downed LA last season 37-14. Los Angeles will look to change their fortunes this Saturday (August 2nd) at Fatality Field. Action starts at 9:15pm ET/6:15pm PT on Virtual Football Network's YouTube Channel.
