Saturday night (January 4th, 2025) was supposed to be a night of newness: New Stadium, new uniforms, and new attitudes. Unfortunately, Los Angeles fans saw the same old team of yesteryear.
The Fort Worth Toros came into Lycanthrope Field at Evo9x Stadium and put up an emphatic 42-16 victory against the Lycans. Here's some Pros and Cons on this Week One Debacle.
Pros
"Can I kick it?"
Kicker John Smith is Mr. Automatic, completing a perfect 19-of-19 in Field Goals. He was the leading scorer of Week One, kicking 9 points on the board for the Lycans
A Catch in the Endzone
QB Sully Richardson connected with WR Chris Lee for a receiving touchdown. The Lycans previously had a four-game drought going into their game. Richardson only threw one interception, Lee had 115 receiving yards, and WR Elzie Pryor had 110 receiving yards.
Cons
Yikes!
Los Angeles had a total of 4 turnovers: A strip sack on Sully Richardson resulting in a Toros TD, 2 fumbles (including a fumbled toss play recovered by Fort Worth and returned for a Fort Worth touchdown), and a pick-six.
"We cannot expect to win any game if we don't minimize mistakes," said WR Elzie Pryor. "The coaching staff and the team as a whole has been hard at work to correct the mistakes we've made."
Week 2 Outlook
The Lycans must turn their attention to the revamped Queen City Corsairs (1-0) as the travel to Lycanthrope Field at Evo9x Stadium. The Corsairs snapped a 13-game losing streak with a 38-31 victory over a returning Oklahoma City Renegades. "QCC has made amazing strides in the offseason. The hard work was shown last week and it cannot be ignored," said Defensive End Ace Blackwell. "We've been focused on being consistent all week. You have to turn the page and write a new chapter."
Can the Lycans right their wrongs? This Sunday's game (12th of January) starts at 8pm ET/5pm PT on Virtual Football Network.
